Mortgage Market Update Summer 2026

There's some good news for anyone thinking about buying a home or remortgaging. Over the past few weeks, we've seen a number of lenders reduce their mortgage rates on selected fixed-rate deals.

The changes have been modest so far, but they're a welcome sign that lenders are competing harder for new customers. If this continues, we could see even better mortgage deals becoming available over the coming months.

Getting on the property ladder is becoming a little easier. Saving for a deposit is one of the biggest challenges for first-time buyers, so it's encouraging to see more low-deposit mortgage options returning to the market.

For example, Halifax has recently introduced a mortgage designed for buyers with a deposit of just £5,000, helping more people take that first step towards owning a home.

We're also seeing more lenders expand their range of 95% loan-to-value (LTV) mortgages, giving buyers more choice and making homeownership a realistic option for those with smaller deposits.
